Hello Members,
Dear Skater and Family,
Welcome to the Columbia Figure Skating Club (CFSC) for the 2008-2009 Skating Season!
We appreciate your interest in our club and look forward to a great season ahead.
CFSC is a very active club and committed to ensuring the skating enjoyment of its membership is met.
Whether your interests are competitive or recreational, we have something for you .
We offer a variety of services and activities for our members throughout the skating season, including:
- managing your official membership in United States Figure Skating organization,
- participation in CFSC Club Ice Time, Ice Shows, Club Recitals, “Glide with Pride” lesson program on Sundays,
- Seasonal Parties, “Skate Sales” and USFS Sanctioned Test Sessions and recognition
and support for our skaters as they progress along the competitive path! In April 2007 we proudly held the 1st Annual Columbia Classic where we were able to showcase skates through the preliminary level in a competition. We are looking forward to our 2nd annual Columbia Classic on August 23, 2008 with even a greater participation! Included with the membership information are all the forms you need to complete to ensure your participation in all the Club sponsored activities. Again this year, all membership information is exclusively posted to our website: http://columbiafsc.mmwebserver.com
There is an ice registration package (including several forms), volunteer sign up sheets,
a show contract and a fall calendar that can be downloaded from our website.
Our first day of Club Ice is Sunday August 17, 2008; it’s a week earlier than usual this year
and we will run later in the season post spring show on Sundays!
At this time you can meet the Board Members , and Committee Chairs and most importantly,
if you haven’t done so already, you can turn in all your Registration Forms and payment for the season.
We continue to offer ice time from 4:30 to 6:00 PM on Mondays and Thursdays this year,
with two 45-minute sessions available on each day. You may adjust the start of your 45-minute session
to match with your coach’s schedule. As always, our Sunday Ice is from 5:15 – 7:15 PM.
The “Glide with Pride” program, which is taught by our advanced skaters, will continue to offer
classes during the Sunday Evening club session, when show rehearsals permit.
This program is intended to enhance the skills of all our members, and complement what they learn in their individual or group lessons. All of our skaters, including the Junior Instructors benefit from this program and we hope to enhance this by ensuring full participation of all skaters.
There will be a recital in the fall and another in the spring with the fall recital scheduled for September 21.
On October 5 there will be a Send-Off for skaters competing in the South Atlantic Regional Qualifying Competition, which is the start on the road to Sectionals, Junior Nationals, Nationals and for some, even International events!
We are presenting four performances of The Nutcracker On Ice.
We will be presenting two performances on each of Saturday December 20 and Sunday, December 21.
Our annual Spring Show will be held on March 28 and March 29.
Our Head Professional and Artistic Director, Pat Muth, and our Show Committee are already
busily planning the details of these extravaganzas!
All members are encouraged to participate in the Shows, just purchase Sunday ice for the fall and/or
spring session and return the show contract.
Make sure you look at the fall and spring calendar for all important dates.
Please make sure you understand your commitment to show participation, including Sunday off-ice and on-ice schedules. Address show related questions to the Show Directors only.
The success of our skating season requires volunteer work on the part of all the skaters and their family members. We ask all members to support our club through participation in a Committee of your choosing. Please use the Volunteer Form to indicate how you can help the club during this season. If you have a special talent, service or ability, please let us know. If you are not sure how you can contribute, talk to Lisa Hermodsson, our Volunteer Coordinator, or to any other Board member.
All pertinent club information will be posted at the rink,
on our website http://www.columbiafsc.mmwebserver.com and via newsletter distribution through yahoo groups. We look forward to seeing you at the rink.
Sincerely,
Donna Timlen, President
Columbia Figure Skating Club
